Google+ (Google Plus) Invites and such

Well, after several days of trying, it seems I have managed to land myself a Google+ invite, with one slight problem. Users are now reaching a notification that states "Already invited? We've temporarily exceeded our capacity. Please try again soon." This indicates that Google is stunting the number of users in the newest social network on purpose, allowing their platform to rid itself of bugs and what not.

Hopefully, this will cease to be the case in a few days and this post will become irrelevant. In the meantime, I will begin preparing a list of people who wish to be invited after I am able to get in, so post your email addresses here in the hopes that I can get in in the next few days!

Friends list on Facebook seems to show your top "Stalkers"

Recently, Facebook has been showing a lot more consistent friends list on the left hand side of every single profile. Those 10 friends that are listed there seem to be the people that you interact most with and the fact is, after several weeks of checking, I believe they are true. People that I mutually stalk, ie. they stalk me and I stalk them, each of us show up on the other's profile under those 10 friends. Similarly, on the people's profiles that I regularly stalk, I appear on that person's ten friends list. The facts about this go on and on, Facebook always tries to deny it, but the fact is, it seems scarily, but awesomely accurate. We will see if they keep expanding on this idea, wether they decide to make this public, or get rid of it all idea. Who knows, maybe it's just an experiment?

8 MP Camera coming to an iPhone near you?

It has been rumored that Sony will begin supplying Apple with an 8 MP camera for use in the next generation iPhone. Only time will tell if this rumor will come true, but this was based off of the fact that the current supplier of cameras for Apple cannot supply the necessary components so a merger will be necessary.

Sure, there is a slap-happy work around for using Google Voice with the official app on the app store, but who wants that when they could have native texting and calling from the native messages and phone app that you already know and love. This leads to the GV SMS extension on the Cyida App Store that you will download, the only prerequisite is that you are jailbroken. This app costs a modest $2.99 but could potentially allow you to not ever need a messaging plan ever. This along with the Phone GV Extension, for potentially unlimited minutes, you will not need voice or SMS on your phone plan! Only data!

How to get Calibri on your Mac as the system font

After several hours of browsing, I have finally found an easy way to replace system fonts on my Mac so I could get the awesome font, Calibri.

Verizon tiered data plans for iPhone 5 and beyond...

In just a few months, Verizon will reveal their new data plans. For better or for worse there WILL be tiered data plans involving prices based off of usage and speed. These will be particularly aimed at the iPhone 5, since it will presumably not be using Verizon's LTE network. We will just wait and see what Verizon allows us to do on our future smartphones.

How to jailbreak your iPod Touch 4th generation and iPhone 4

There is an easy solution for your special iDevice using new software called greenpois0n.

Here are the steps:

1. Turn off your device and plug it into your computer.
2. Download greenpois0n software and install. (here)
3. The instructions in the window will tell you how to get your device into DFU mode.
4, Press jailbreak and it will automatically show you what to do.
5. After it is finished, there will be a Loader icon on your iDevice. Click it.
6. Install Cydia and you are now jailbroken!

How to use Google Voice effectively using a "Dumbphone" and an iPod Touch

So most of us out there probably aren't able to afford the iPhones and the Androids. Google voice is still a viable option for others who use what we call "Dumbphones."

One could set up Google Voice and tell all of their contacts to call/text this number. This means that no matter what phone or phone service you use in the future, you will always have the same number. It is ingenious!

On your iPod Touch, you could install the iPhone messaging app and then use GV SMS Extension to text natively from your iPod. Where ever there is wifi, you can now text for free, then when not on wifi, use your phone to forward texts to your contacts.

This is the solution I have found to be viable and if you feel like this would work for you, post your questions in the comments!

How to Fix: iPhone / iPod Touch not showing up in iTunes, only Charging

Here is a fix for when your stubborn iPhone or iPod Touch decided not to appear in your sidebar for iTunes. I first encountered this issue about a month ago and it took me until now to find a fix. The problem arrises from a Mac OS X 10.6.6 software update but may also work on a previous version.

Here's the fix. Open up Software Update, if you don't know where that is, click on the Apple icon on the top left of your screen, then Software Update, after that, wait for it to load up all your updates. When it has finished, scroll down until you see the iPhone SDK Compatibility Update. This small 6KBish update will be the fix for all those syncing woes you have encountered. Download and install the update and viola! Now your iPhone and/or iPod Touch will sync with iTunes now.

It has been recently clarified that the Verizon iPhone on the CDMA network of Verizon cannot use both voice and data at the same time while on 3g. However, if you happen to be at home or in an area with a wifi hotspot, you will be able to browse the web on wifi as well as make and take phone calls. Glad they got that cleared up.

Verizon iPhone to stay with Unlimited Data plan, for now.

Verizon Wireless revealed to the public today that it will keep it's unlimited data plan as the only option available to early adopters of its new iPhone. However, it was also stated that the unlimited option would be discontinued later, probably to open up the 4g market and for the android users to rejoice. Grab the unlimited plan while you can and stay grandfathered in!

How to jailbreak iPhone 1G, 2G, 3G, iPod Touch 1g, and 2g with firmware 3.0

Okay, first upgrade your iPhone/iPod Touch to firmware version 3.0 using iTunes. The update costs $10. Then head over to the dev-team blog here, and download redsn0w. Unzip the download onto your desktop. Find your iPhone/iPod Touch firmware on your computer located

C:\Users\*USERNAME8\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates

on windows.

Remember the location of this file. Make sure it is 3.0

Plug your device into iTunes and put your iPhone/iPod Touch in DFU mode by holding the power and home buttons down until the ipod shuts off, then count to 2 and release the power/top button but keep holding onto the home button. It should now be in DFU mode.
Open up the redsn0w app or .exe on mac and windows resectively.

Follow the instructions. Once you get to the part about turning your ipod off, you already did this by putting it into DFU mode so just hit next. Follow the rest of the instructions in redsn0w and your iPod/iPhone should now be jailbroken with 3.0!

How To: Jailbreak iPod Touch 2g (2nd generation) using Untetherizer

This tutorial is as of now, only for Mac. Sorry Windows users, maybe I'll write another tutorial later if you guys want me to.

Okay, so we're going to start off with the requirements. First, you need an iPod Touch 2g (2nd generation) the one with the curved back, and the speaker. Next, you'll need a Mac with the latest Mac OS X Leopard on it installed and ready. Lastly, you'll need a few programs which I will provide the links to. They are free, so no need to worry.

The first download you will need to complete is Pwnage Tool 2.2.5 direct download there. Extract that and leave it off to the side on your desktop. Next, download the rslite101.zip here. After that, extract the folder to your desktop. You should have a folder called rslite now on your desktop. Open it up and go to CustomPackages, then right-click or option-click n the CydiaInstaller.bundle and click Show Package Contents. Now drag the Info.plist file to your desktop. You should now have the following files on your desktop: rslite folder, info.plist, and Pwnage Tool.

Next, download the program Untetherizer, located here. Unzip the contents onto your desktop. Then download the 24kpawn patch and unzip that also to your desktop. Now you should have 5 files on your desktop and they are the following in no particular order: Pwnage Tool, Info.plist, rslite folder, Untetherizer, and LLB.n72ap.RELEASE.patch (inside the 24kpawn download).

Open Untetherizer, and click Start Untetherizer. Click "Download Firmware Package" where it will take you to a sharing site. Click "Click here to start downloading" and download the file. Extract the file inside the download to your desktop. It should be called "iPod2,1_2.1.1_5h11a.bundle" and drag this to your desktop. Now, Right-click or option-click on Pwnage Tool, click Show Package Contents, click Contents, Resources, Custom Packages. Then Right click on CydiaInstaller.bundle and click Show Package Contents. Drag the Info.plist from your desktop onto the folder, replacing the original file in that folder. Now, in the Finder window, go back to the folder Resources and find FirmwareBundles and drag the iPod firmware file from your desktop onto your folder, replacing the one already in that folder. Now, plug your iPod Touch 2g into your computer and cancel all iTunes syncing if that starts up. Open Pwnage Tool. Select iPod Touch. Make sure Expert Mode is enabled. On the next screen, pick the firmware that shows up, it should be your current iPod Touch Firmware. In the next screen, click on Custom Logos and make sure that it is unchecked. This is a crucial step. Click the arrows and it should begin making your firmware. Once it is made on your desktop, rename it to Firmware.ipsw.

Make sure that you have the Firmware.ipsw and the LLB..patch on your desktop. On Untetherizer, click on Generate Patched Firmware. DO NOT CLOSE TERMINAL. After terminal is finished, you will now have a file on your desktop called NormalUntetherizedFirmware.ipsw. Set your iPod in DFU Mode. (I'll explain later if you are unsure how to do this). Back in Untetherizer, click "Start DFU Pre-Boot" In iTunes, Right-click on Restore on your iPod and navigate to your firmware on the desktop, the NormalUntether...ipsw firmware. Your iPod Touch will now install the jailbroken firmware onto your iPod. Your iPod will reboot and now you will have your very own jailbroken iPod Touch 2g. Congratulations!

If the users request, I will add some more tutorials for all the great applications that you can download and install through Cydia. Good Luck and i hope your iPod is now successfully Jailbroken. Install Avant Window Navigator on Ubuntu without an Internet Connection

For those enough unfortunate enough to not yet be able to get our network up and running on Ubuntu, this guide is for those who still want to be able to use Avant Window Navigator or AWN. All the links to the dependencies will be included in this short tutorial. This guide is for those running Ubuntu Gutsy 7.10. Also you should make sure that Compiz or Compiz Fusion is enabled and you can figure this out by reading my Compiz Guide. Also follow those instructions if you graphics card is blacklisted.

First visit here and download the avant-window-navigator, libawn0, and the awn-manager. Then visit here and select a mirror to download from. After that, head over to this page and scroll down to the file download section and download libpango1.0-0-1.18.3. Then go to this page to download libpango0-1.0 common. Finally head over to this last page and download the tzdata package which is optional depending on if you need it.

Now that everything is downloaded lets start installing. First install the libc6 which may or may not need/conflict with tzdata. If so then install tzdata first. After installing libc6, install libpango0-1.0. Then libpango0-1.0 common and finally libawn0. Then install AWN and its manager, awn-manager. Everything should install okay without any errors for dependencies if you are running Ubuntu Gutsy 7.10. Then go up to Applications > Accessories > Avant Window Navigator. To configure, right click on the dock and select preferences. Now enjoy your new Mac-like dock. To add shortcuts, drag the icon from the desktop or the menu bar onto AWN.

Not only has Mr. Munch created the ONLY true MMORPG on the iPhone/iPod Touch, but he did it well. This game has it all and for only $5, this app can be yours. There are continued updates on the server side making the update process through the tedious App Store almost nonexistent. Nils can update the server and within seconds, every app will be updated. This game is still being actively and continuously expanded at a rapidly growing rate. The community for this amazing game is growing strong and the app itself is selling wonderously.

Now for a few words about this game. It is the first real MMORPG for the iPhone and here's why. A quote from CozyQuest.com

The game started out with one town, but within 1-2 weeks, it already has an expanded map. One additional town has been created and who knows how many more Mr. Nils Munch will add. If you are a fan of World of Warcraft, then this is the game for you. The mobile version. You won't regret this fine game that is continually being developed at a rapidly exponential rate.

Looking for a good, no, great Twitter client for your iPhone/iPod Touch can be a challenge to some users as they are not certain what features and functions they want. Most Twitter apps have very good features in one or two areas, but only a select few can put all the pieces together. This app provides a great interface that is pleasing to the eyes, support for multiple accounts, the ability to tweet with pictures and location tags, favorites, trends, search (including nearby), and better private messaging support. One feature I have found helpful is the messages tab. It enables you to not only view your inbox, but your sent also! This makes it easy to view those complex codes you sent to toodledo or Google Calendar that you just can't remember at the moment.
